Meet Rachel

Thanks to my two tweens, I am blessed with the opportunity to be reborn since becoming a mother. I have been able to experience a new life that is completely different but equally wonderful as before. Motherhood has called me to face and better myself everyday, so that my children may grow and thrive in the best way possible. 

 

Over the past decade, my parenting journey has been full of unadulterated joy as well as daunting challenges. Since the birth of my first child daughter in 2011, I have delved into various schools of parenting education, including Montessori Parenting, Mindful Parenting, Positive Parenting, NLP parent-child communication, Children Mindfulness Training, Children Play Therapy, and Purpose-Based Parenting, and so on.  I was on the hunt for a parenting method that suits my children and myself.  My two daughters are very different from each other,  but they are both my best teachers, and my most reliable mirror that provides me the reflection to dive deep into my inner most.

 

Embarking on the quest to become a better parent, it dawned on me that the path has been paved with unparalleled love, warmth and sweetness as much as inevitable worries and occasional sadness.  Fortunately, I was never desensitized by the pain, and persisted in my search for lasting familial bliss and establishing intimate bonding yet healthy boundaries with my children.  Eventually I came across Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) from the U.S. and became a certified P.E.T. instructor, allowing me to truly fulfil my role as a parent, and grow together with my children. 

 

The parenting communication skills that P.E.T. taught me is like a magic wand that time and again creates miracles for me and my kids. It has liberated me from the chaotic webs of fallacies, freed me from relying on reward / punishment to only end up in an exhausting power struggle, or compromising my own needs because I was out of wits.  With the P.E.T. roadmap, I have had a paradigm shift and now been infused with confidence and competence to gift my kids a childhood that would nourish them for a lifetime. As a family, we are together creating a happy life with and for each other.

 

Before becoming a mother, I studied Journalism and was passionate about my career as a reporter. In the 90s, while studying my journalism degree in Toronto, I was a part-time reporter at Fairchild Television and Fairchild Radio. Upon returning to Hong Kong, I worked in three TV stations, and served ATV for 7 years as senior reporter and news anchor. My work as a journalist demanded speed and agility, and a commitment to seeking truth and justice - qualities that come naturally to me.  Later I completed an MBA and was headhunted to join the field of corporate communications. In 2005 I became the Head of Corporate Communications at Hong Kong’s first listed real estate investment fund.

 

After getting married, I decided to take my years of networking and communication experience to the next level. I founded my own Media/ PR Consultancy serving clients including Mass Transit Railway, China Light and Power, Vocational Training Council, City University, Wyeth Nutrition Hong Kong, and Roche Pharmaceuticals, etc.   During this time, I also hosted programs for various media including RTHK and Cable TV, as well as writing columns for Hong Kong Economic Journal. Another key service of mine was to provide professional media training, crisis communication workshops, and public speaking training to top corporate executives.

 

At the same time, I have been blessed to be a mother of two and opened the door to parental bliss. More than ten years down the road, I marvel at the importance of parenting education, but also lament the lack of it. Me and my family moved back to Canada in 2022, and shortly after, I was qualified in the U.S. as a certified Parent Effectiveness Training Instructor. I wish to redirect my professional experience in communication training to coach parents, so that they and their children, too, could optimize their potential to the fullest, so as to build a nourishing, loving, respectful and harmonious family life together.
